In 1999, a group of individuals came together to form the Scottish Slate Islands Heritage Trust. Seeking charitable status, their objective is to advance the education of the public on matters regarding the life and times of the people within the islands.
This is achieved by collecting and publishing information regarding the area. It researches and records former industrial practice, architectural and sociological aspects of the former slate industry and life in the islands.
The Trust also collects documents, records, artifacts and other historical items, to preserve and protect them and make them available to the public.
In addition to the past history the Trust keeps a continuous record of events and happenings of today, for researchers of the future. The Trust is always pleased to hear from anyone who may have information, records and other matter which would be of interest.
